Peace/Justice/Whole Earth Ministry PDF Print E-mail

Mission Statement

We acknowledge that peace, justice and care for the whole earth is God's plan for all creation in that our world has finite resources. As God offers all people the special gift of peace through Jesus Christ, we are called to deal justly with one another and the earth, for there is no peace without justice.

As stewards of the earth, we are called to be a caring people, living in harmony with the environment, respecting and honoring the gifts of God's creation with gratitude for all that we have received.

Knowing that future generations depend upon us, we seek opportunities to make a significant impact and difference on social and environmental issues in the home, church, community, state and world through education, worship, and specific projects. Our goal is to bring you easy to find information on how you as one person or one family can impact the earth.

Environmental Justice, Eco-Justice, and the UCC

Monday, May 14, 2012, 9-10:30 AM
First Plymouth Congregational Church, United Church of Christ

3501 S. Colorado Blvd., Englewood, CO 80113

What can and should the United Church of Christ be saying and doing about ecological and environmental justice in the 21st Century? How can your congregation connect to the initiatives of the national UCC and the ecumenical church?

Rev. James Deming, the Minister of Environmental Justice for the National UCC office in Cleveland, will speak and answer questions about the UCC's current direction regarding Environmental Ministry. There are exciting new projects underway, and new outreach ideas in the works. You can learn about how these ministries can help your church, and you can provide feedback on what you think will be meaningful in your congregation.

Ministers and church staff, Green Teams and Whole Earth Committees, and anybody interested in this aspect of the national UCC -- all are invited to this informal gathering which includes a light breakfast.

The gathering is sponsored by First Plymouth, the Justice & Peace Ministry Team of the Rocky Mountain Conference UCC, and Eco-Justice Ministries.

Your RSVP is encouraged! Email DemingRSVP(at)eco-justice.org , or call 303-715-3873.

Jim is coming to Denver for a weekend of stewardship programming at First Plymouth, with a workshop for First Plymouth leaders on Saturday, and preaching for worship on Sunday. He is happy to have this occasion to connect with other churches from the UCC's Rocky Mountain Conference on Monday morning.

For the Monday morning gathering, Rev. Peter Sawtell will also be present. Peter is the Executive Director of Eco-Justice Ministries, and served on the Energy and Environment Task Force of the national UCC from 2005-9.
