Rev. Joanne Buchanan-Brown has joined UCC - Longmont as our interim pastor. Joanne has just concluded 10 years as prison pastor and chaplain to the 1,000 women at the maximum-security Denver Women's Correctional Facility. She is a spiritual director in private practice and coordinator of the Denver site of the Benet Hill (Benedictine) Spiritual Formation Program, where she teaches and supervises students in a two year program offering certification as a spiritual director. She has been a parish pastor in both the United Methodist Church and the UCC, and has served as interim pastor and in other various capacities a number of churches in the Metro Denver and the Platte Valley Associations of the RMCUCC over the past 10 years. Prior to her work in ministry, she was an RN for 30 years with specialties in ER/Trauma and Mental Health/Addictions as well as administration and management.
Joanne considers interim ministry a specific call in which her gifts can be fully utilized, and each congregation a wonderfully unique partner in ministry. She looks forward to a sacred time of discovery and adventure together as she comes to journey with UCC Longmont for a time. Joanne lives in neighboring Lafayette with her husband, Chris Brown, Chinese medicine practitioner and acupuncturist, and jazz bassist. She was ordained in the UCC by the Metro Denver Association in 2010.
